NASA’s Mars oxygen success raises hopes of a human visit

NASA’s Mars oxygen success

Scientists are learning more about extracting oxygen from martian air thanks to MIT's Moxie Mars Experiment.

MOXIE (Mars Oxygen In-Situ Resource Utilization Experiment) produced oxygen on Mars "under various atmospheric conditions."

MOXIE at MIT was able to meet its goal of building six grams of oxygen per hour

which is "about the rate of a modest tree on Earth."

The team still needs to demonstrate the technology at dawn and dusk, but they are confident they can do so.
